Chiefs Apparently Interested In Former Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery

How about a free agent wide receiver?

According to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News, the Kansas City Chiefs have expressed "significant interest" in free agent WR Jerricho Cotchery. Coincidentally, the team Mehta covers, the New York Jets, are also interested in signing Cotchery, which (coincidentally, remember) creates the illusion of a bidding war for his services.

Cotchery would be the fourth option in Kansas City so I can't imagine the Chiefs are spending serious money here. The Chiefs are losing one receiver in free agency -- Jerheme Urban. Dwayne Bowe is on the franchise tag and Jonathan Baldwin and Steve Breaston are both signed to multi-year deals.

Cotchery was originally drafted by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He spent his first seven years in the league with the Jets. It appears the prime of his career came between 2006-09 when he had at least 821 yards receiving every hear. He had over 1,100 yards receiving in 2007, a career high.

Cotchery spent the 2011 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were reportedly interested in re-signing him before he hit the open market.
