The San Diego Chargers will be releasing OT Marcus McNeill this afternoon in advance of the 2012 NFL free agency period, which starts at 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time). McNeill's agent, Alvin Keels, confirmed the news.
McNeill was the Chargers second round pick in the 2006 NFL draft and he started all but two games in the first four years of his career. But McNeill was one of those players affected by the free agency rules in the uncapped year and missed five games in the 2010 season holding out because of that. He missed another seven in 2011 due to injury. He's played in just 20 games the last two seasons.
McNeill is an interesting player because he had a lot of success in San Diego but now he has some medical issues. For what it's worth, his agent said he's been cleared by doctors to resume playing. He suffered knee and neck injuries after the Chargers signed him to a six-year, $49 million deal during the 2010 season.
He played on the left side in San Diego for six years.
it would be kinda fitting if the Chargers signed OT Jared Gaither and the Chiefs signed McNeill.
