One player I mistakenly left out when looking at the players the Kansas City Chiefs should pursue in free agency is New England Patriots running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a/k/a the "Law Firm". (Remember the commercials in KC from this law firm?)
Tom Curran of CSNNE.com reports that all signs point to Green-Ellis hitting free agency this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time).
There has been "dialogue" between Green-Ellis' camp and the Patriots but an agreeable offer for the fifth-year running back out of Ole Miss hasn't emerged.
A source indicated that Green-Ellis would be a "coveted" prospect when he does hit the market.
We've seen several reports of a team not-named-the-Patriots being hot on the tail of Green-Ellis. There is little doubt in my mind those are coming from the agent so I can't say for sure whether there really is a developing market for Green-Ellis. But, like Eric Winston at right tackle, Green-Ellis at running back makes so much sense for the Chiefs.
I do wonder whether the relationship between GM Scott Pioli and Bill Belichick will play into this. Is there an unwritten rule that they won't pursue each other's free agents? I'm not really sure but that's something to keep in mind as we wait for the market to develop on Green-Ellis.
