The Oakland Raiders were in miserable salary cap shape when new GM Reggie McKenzie took over and ever since then it seems the only words we've seen coming out of Oakland are "release" or "restructure". The Raiders have been doing a lot of that. They released guys like CB Stanford Routt, CB Chris Johnson and TE Kevin Boss while restructuring the contracts of guys like DE Richard Seymour. They're also probably not going to be able to re-sign RB Michael Bush. A lot of talent is leaving Oakland.
Another big one could be coming -- LB Kamerion Wimbley. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports Wimbley will likely be released. The Bay Area media is referring to it as "if/when Wimbley is cut" so it sounds like it's gonna happen.
Wimbley signed a five-year, $48 million deal last August that reportedly included $29 million in guarantees. And he's going to be cut after one year. That's the Raiders.
Actually, this begs the question: Is the most Raider-esque move this year releasing Routt one year into a five-year, $54 million deal or releasing Wimbley one year into a five-year, $48 million deal?
