Unfortunately, the Kansas City Chiefs couldn't even get a meeting with free agent Peyton Manning. The Denver Post reports both the Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks requested a visit with Manning but he declined. The paper reported both KC and Seattle were out of the Manning sweepstakes.
This news came out on Sunday night and I was too depressed to blog about it so it waited until this morning.
The Chiefs were pretty clearly interested in Manning. Romeo Crennel made it clear as day that the Chiefs had interest in him. GM Scott Pioli said the quarterback competition is coming this offseason. Clark Hunt said KC would spend whatever they needed to and he followed it up last week by saying publicly the Chiefs would pursue Manning.
And they couldn't even get a meeting after that.
Did we just overestimate the fit between Manning and KC? Have we been wearing red blinders the last week? This is depressing because it seemed like Chiefs fans were the only ones who realized KC would be a Super Bowl contender with a healthy Manning.
Manning has visited the Broncos and Cardinals. He could make his decision before Tuesday's free agency period.
