Mark Sanchez and Matt Cassel are similar in a lot of ways. Other than the USC connection, they both came to their respective teams in 2009 with the pressure that every starting quarterback has. And they're also similar in that they're hardly lived up to those expectations. Sanchez took the Jets to a pair of AFC Championship games but you could make the argument they did that in spite of him and Cassel has put one good year in Kansas City (2010) out of three.
Chiefs fans are clamoring for Peyton Manning and with good reason. Jets fans, on the other hand, are facing the realization that they're sticking with Sanchez.
Per multiple reports, the Jets agreed to a five-year contract extension with Sanchez. They also confirmed they reached out to Manning but that they're committed to Sanchez now.
We'll see if this is a real contract extension or a phony one. As Pro Football Talk points out, Donovan McNabb signed a reported five-year, $78 million deal with the Redskins 13 months ago. (Hold on. I'm still laughing about that one.) Read that and tell me NFL contracts mean a whole lot more than the business our dogs Callie and Sheldon do out in the backyard.
You bring up KCChiefs.com and it says Cassel agrees to an extension. Your reaction is...?
