Rumor Mill Has Chiefs OT Ryan O'Callaghan Considering Retirement

The Kansas City Chiefs have just a couple of offensive tackles under contract for the 2012 NFL season and a couple of guys expected to hit free agency. One of the impending free agents is right tackle Ryan O'Callaghan, who has been with the team since he was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots at the start of the 2009 season.

And, according to Adam Caplan, there's a rumor making the rounds that O'Callaghan will retire. (I feel left out not hearing this rumor myself.) He has had numerous injury issues since entering the NFL, including one that ended his 2011 season before it even started.

O'Callaghan missed all of the 2011 season with injury and started just one game in 2010 with Barry Richardson holding down the starting job. He had injuries throughout the 2010 season as well.

With the injuries over the last couple of years, it's hard to see how O'Callaghan would have a role on the Chiefs anyway. You can't play if you're not on the field, and O'Callaghan often wasn't.

We'll see what comes of this latest rumor.
