The Oakland Raiders kicked off free agency a little early by releasing CB Stanford Routt and to this point the cornerback has visited a number of teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs. Because Routt plays cornerback, and the Chiefs have CB Brandon Carr scheduled to hit free agency, this is an important story in KC.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports Routt is expected to make his decision "soon".
What does "soon" mean? A day? Week? Month?
Any of the above. If Routt had a great offer, he probably would've taken it already.
It's probably in his best interest to sign soon, like before March 13 when free agency hits. Right now, he's the best cornerback available, which means he has some leverage. When free agency starts, he'll become the fourth or fifth best cornerback available. Thus, he should probably sign soon to secure the best possible deal.
Besides the Chiefs, Routt has reportedly visited the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. There were a number of other teams connected to him as well.
