Clark Hunt's vision for the Chiefs next head coach

KC Chiefs owner Clark Hunt made big changes on Monday, firing coach Romeo Crennel and announcing it would be him, and not GM Scott Pioli, who decides the next head coach. Hunt laid out his criteria for the next Chiefs head coach.

Back at the end of the 2008 season, Clark Hunt embarked on a search for the Kansas City Chiefs next general manager search. To assist him in the search, he had a list of what he was looking for in the Chiefs next GM.

Those traits were:

Shrewd evaluator of talent
Experience with winning teams
Strong leader
Effective communicator
Blends into the Chiefs culture
Someone outside the organization.

Four years later, Hunt is now looking for a head coach. Once again, he talked about what he's looking for in the Chiefs next head coach.

These are a few of the traits he mentioned to Mitch Holthus on

Proven leader: Several ways to look at this. Saying "proven" could mean someone who's done it before -- i.e. a former head coach. But you can also be a leader without being a head coach, so I'm not sure how much to read into that.

Someone who has been part of building a successful program: Important! He said the same thing back in 2009 when he was looking for a GM. And he hired Scott Pioli, who had success in New England. Not that any owner is looking for someone who has only coached on bad teams.

High integrity: Find me an owner who's looking for someone with low integrity.

Effective communicator and teacher: You'd assume this but it's still important. Being "effective" doesn't mean you have to be nice and it doesn't mean you have to be a hard-ass. Effective ... now I'm not even sure what that means.

High football IQ: Hopefully.

Enjoys working hard a willing to hold himself and those around him accountable: Another trait every owner is looking for in every employee.
