The Kansas City Chiefs MVP race heats up (no, it doesn't)

Dustin Colquitt!

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

After the Oakland Raiders shut out the KC Chiefs on Sunday, Romeo Crennel walked to the podium for his usual postgame press conference. When discussing the game, Crennel did mention the one bright spot in this game -- the punter.

Yes, Romeo actually pointed out the punter for having a good game. "If there was a bright spot in this game," Crennel said, "it was the punter."

Oy.

Let's play along, though. Just how good was Dustin Colquitt on this day?

  • Colquitt ended the day with seven punts for 383 yards, which averages out to 54.7 yards. His net punting was almost as high -- 51.9 yards. That 54.7 average is the second highest he's ever seen, as is the 51.9 net yards.
  • Colquitt had a 71-yard punt in the game, the longest punt of the season and fifth longest of his career. It was the longest punt in two years for him.
  • Colquitt tied his own record when he booted four punts inside the 20-yard line. His 41 punts inside the 20 this season tied his own franchise record (from 2009). He owns the top three spots in the Chiefs record books for punts inside the 20 in a season.
