Finally. Finally, finally, finally. We have answer as to why the Kansas City Chiefs have not been playing Steve Breaston. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel was asked what Breaston needs to show for him to get on the field this weekend.
His answer:
"He needs to show that he has a great understanding of the game plan and he can execute the game plan," Crennel said, via comments sent out by the Chiefs. "If he can do that, then he can be in uniform."
Other people heard that as a "greater" understanding, as in implying Breaston, as of now, does not have an understanding of the game plan.
Crennel did not commit to Breaston playing this weekend even with Dwayne Bowe out
This is really the first time we've heard an actual reason as to why Breaston is sitting and it's perplexing. Breaston, as far as I know, doesn't have a reputation of a guy who can't understand game plans and he doesn't have a reputation as a troublemaker.
With Dwayne Bowe's injury, Crennel probably knew the Breaston question was coming so he probably had an answer ready. That's why this is so confusing to me. What message is this supposed to send to Breaston? I don't get it.
The conspiracy theories will point to Todd Haley, mainly that Breaston was known as a "Haley guy". But I have trouble believing that without any evidence.
Strange.
