Arrowheadlines: Kansas City Chiefs News 11/22

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!!! I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday. To those of you serving overseas and unable to be with family, you are not forgotten today. Oh, and don't forget your fantasy lineups. Here is today's Kansas City Chiefs news...

Peter Aiken

Chiefs Thanksgiving Food Distribution from The Mothership

Since 1992, the Kansas City Chiefs organization and Chiefs players have funded the annual Chiefs Thanksgiving Food Distribution. In that time, more than 16,500 families have been fed as a result of this initiative. This year, the Chiefs Thanksgiving Food Distribution provided 2,000 local families with their Thanksgiving meal.

"This is really exciting because it's not only the players, or the Hunt family, but it's the Cheerleaders, the Red Coaters and front office staff; everybody coming together collectively to help uplift our neighbors for Thanksgiving," Chuck Castellano noted, Chiefs Community Relations Manager. "It really has been a team effort to help the community and so many families will be getting a Thanksgiving meal as a result of this endeavor."

Ex-GM Peterson 'Saddened' By Chiefs' Situation from KC Star

Carl Peterson knows exactly why I called. He knows why some Chiefs fans want to hear from him. In some real ways, this conversation is a beach ball of schadenfreude placed on a tee for the man who effectively ran all things Chiefs for nearly 20 years, then was fired four years ago with his reputation in Kansas City at least frayed.

Peterson knows all of this. He won't take his biggest swing.

But he will make solid contact.

Chiefs' Quinn To Return To Starting Lineup Against Denver from KC Star

It will be Quinn's third start of the season and first since he suffered a concussion in the early going of the Chiefs' 26-16 loss to Oakland on Oct. 28. Quinn was unavailable for the next two games at San Diego and at Pittsburgh but was cleared to play last week, and replaced Matt Cassel for the second half of Sunday's 28-6 loss to Cincinnati.

Stanzi Still Waiting For Chiefs To Give Him A Chance from KC Star

He's the Chiefs' forgotten man.

But Ricky Stanzi remains at the ready, if allowed the opportunity.

Now more than halfway through his second season in the NFL, the fifth-round draft pick out of Iowa is still awaiting his first regular-season snap.

Read that again. Twenty-six games that count, zero seconds on the playing field.

Belcher's Drive To Succeed Helps Team And Self from The Mothership

Belcher's undeniable path to the NFL includes time at West Babylon High School (NY), where the former linebacker, offensive tackle, nose guard and fullback also wrestled, which he says helps his game. That cornucopia of skills (second gratuitous nod towards Turkey day...Sorry, I couldn't help it!) has certainly paid off.

"Just being versatile. I think it helped build my whole (just) mental mentality, to never give up and just keep fighting and wrestling was a big part of it and it still is."

Chiefs' Free-Agent Class Has Been A Major Letdown from KC Star

What's worse, Winston may be the only one of the group with the Chiefs next season. Routt is already gone, Hillis and Quinn are on one-year contracts and it's not wise to assume Boss, given his concussion history, will play again.

The Chiefs made lesser finds in free agency like Ropati Pitoitua, now starting on the defensive line in the absence of the injured Glenn Dorsey, and Edgar Jones, one of their better special teams players.

But the others were the acquisitions the Chiefs were counting on.

Chiefs Tailgating: The Pilshaw's from The Mothership

On game days it's all about tailgating! The tailgate has grown from two cars and a small grill to an extreme tailgater's paradise.

"We usually average between 25 and 40 people a tailgate," Patti explained. "Our group is a mixture of family, friends, & business associates. Anybody who wants to come can come, doesn't matter...We have a monster grill that we fire up and are ready to start cooking as soon as the parking lots open. "

The preparations for the tailgate experience begin Saturday morning. Russ picks up the food, Patti and Veronica gather and fill the coolers and make sure they have everything needed for the tailgate. They show up at the stadium early to unload their Chiefs RV, which is specifically dedicated to game day tailgating.

Denver At Kansas City from CBS Sports

With Willis McGahee out, Miller and the defense could be poised for yet another dominant performance Sunday against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs.

Denver (7-3) opened a three-game lead in the West with a 30-23 victory over San Diego last Sunday, sweeping the season series.

The Broncos are on the cusp of matching their win total from last season thanks to a five-game winning streak, but they'll have to go forward without McGahee. The team leader with 731 rushing yards, McGahee was placed on injured reserve after tearing the medial collateral ligament in his right knee when he was tackled low against the Chargers.

Chiefs' Line Could Be In Shambles from ESPN

Center Ryan Lilja (knee) and left tackle Branden Albert (back) did not practice Wednesday and guard Jon Asamoah (thumb) was limited. Asamoah and Lilja missed the Cincinnati game Sunday and Albert departed early. If the Chiefs are without those three lineman on Sunday, it could be a problem considering they face pass-rush stars Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil.

The Sports Guy's Thanksgiving Football Mailbag from Grantland

Q: Read this immediately. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2012 Kansas City Chiefs!

-Aaron Wheeler, San Antonio

SG: Crap, I jumped the gun. Here's the big question, though: Which remaining game will the Chiefs stupidly win to screw up their stranglehold on the no. 1 overall pick? The three most likely candidates: home for 2-8 Carolina (Week 13), at 2-8 Cleveland (Week 14) and at 3-7 Oakland (Week 15). Who else is fired up for that Chiefs-Browns matchup?
