Jamaal Charles was hurt in the Chiefs Thursday night loss to the Chargers when he took a shot to the head/neck area. The Chiefs called it a neck injury but Charles told reporters including the KC Star's Adam Teicher after the game that he was tested for a concussion.
"They said it wasn't a concussion because I remembered everything," Charles said, via the KC Star. "That's very fine, because they would try to hold me out next week."
I'm not even sure what that means. Memory loss isn't the only test for a concussion and a concussion isn't an automatic out for the following week (though some would argue it should be).
As we noted last night, head injuries are out of the players hands. They will be handled by a doctor. Charles won't be the one making a decision on his status when it comes to concussions and head injuries and that's probably a good thing because he may have to be literally knocked out to actually take himself out of a game.
