Baltimore wonders who the Chiefs starting QB will be against Ravens

Apparently, Romeo Crennel "isn't tipping his hand" about the Chiefs starting QB.

After Sunday's loss to the Chargers, KC Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said in regards to Matt Cassel's starting position: "I'm staying with the quarterback."

That of course is not the end of the story.

Romeo Crennel spoke to the Baltimore media on Wednesday and though I haven't heard the audio of the interview the Ravens official website came away with the idea that Crennel "isn't tipping his hand" on who will start against the Ravens this weekend.

In an article on the Ravens website titled "Chiefs Not Tipping Their Hand On Starting Quarterback", Ryan Mink writes:

Chiefs Head Coach Romeo Crennel isn't tipping his hand on who his starting quarterback will be this Sunday.

But the Ravens seem to believe usual starter Matt Cassel will be under center.

Speaking to the Baltimore media Wednesday, Crennel shut down multiple questions about Cassel, who threw three interceptions last week against San Diego and now has seven picks to five touchdowns.

"We're going to go into the game and we're going to do what we think is best for our team to give ourselves the best chance to win," Crennel said. "I'm not going to discuss a short leash or anything like that."

I'm not even sure what to make of that. Crennel has already said that Cassel is starting this week and he's "staying with the quarterback". That "short leash" quote suggests that someone -- Cassel? -- would have to have a leash to begin with. He responded to questions about Brady Quinn this week the same way he did last week, saying "we'll see" when asked if Quinn will receive more snaps.

So...Cassel is going to start this game. I didn't even know that was a question. The Ravens should fully expect Cassel to start.

The question is whether Cassel gets the hook if he struggles. Crennel has even delved a little bit into what a quarterback switch could look like so I wouldn't say that's out of the question.

But the starter on Sunday? That's Cassel.
