The NFL and the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to announce this morning that the Jaguars will be "hosting" the San Francisco 49ers in London's Wembley Stadium next year. The Jaguars agreed to play one game a year in London from 2013-16 and it was believed the Kansas City Chiefs were an option to play there next season but the 49ers get the nod.
The Jaguars 2013 opponents are the Texans, Colts, Titans, Chargers, Chiefs, Cardinals, and 49ers. Take out those AFC West teams and you were left with the four likely candidates.
We talked about the Chiefs in London earlier this year, including our poll:
As the poll shows, the majority of people would be OK with this arrangement because it involves a Chiefs away game -- not a home game. Home games in this city affect so many people that the Chiefs would have to involve the community in the decision-making process as opposed to a unilateral decision.
That said, the league is trying to add another international game so I suppose it's still possible we hear more news on this.
