This story on Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel, his injury and his status for Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills is so familiar. It's almost as if we've heard it before.
Oh, yeah, we have.
You all remember late August 2009, right?
On Aug. 30, 2009, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported that Cassel, the Chiefs new quarterback, suffered an MCL sprain and would be out 2-4 weeks. Later that day we were talking about QB Brodie Croyle starting a game for the Chiefs and how most of us didn't think beating Baltimore was possible in Week 1 because of the injury.
It's pretty similar to what's going on here. Nick Wright of 610 Sports and Adam Teicher of the KC Star reported that Cassel suffered a rib injury when Green Bay Packers DT Howard Green came tumbling down on him last Thursday night.
The good news? No one is definitively saying Cassel is out for Week 1. In fact, many are suggesting he's more likely to play than not play. Again, the folks that really know are Cassel and the medical people but nobody seems overly concerned that Cassel could miss time.
If he does, though, we'll be talking about Tyler Palko just like we were talking Croyle almost two years ago to the day.
