Chargers LB Fined $15,000 For Hit On Matt Cassel

As you know, the NFL has been more sensitive to illegal hits around the league in the past couple of years so I always keep a running list of possible illegal hits throughout any game.

During last Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers, I jotted down a hit Chargers LB Travis LaBoy had on Chiefs QB Matt Cassel

With under a minute left in the third quarter, Cassel completed a four-yard pass to RB Dexter McCluster and after Cassel released the ball he was struck by Chargers LB Travis LaBoy around the head. The play drew a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer.

For that hit, he received a $15,000 fine from the NFL. A league spokesman explained to me the reasoning behind it saying he "struck the opposing quarterback in the head and neck area."

So now LaBoy's game check is $15,000 lighter.
