Some Kansas City Chiefs Roster Cuts Could Be Coming Today

Getty Images
The Kansas City Chiefs will be trimming their roster from 80 to 53 players to comply with the NFL roster cut deadline on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time).

Last year, the cut down day came at the same time, on a Saturday after a Thursday game. The Chiefs released seven players on Friday of last year and 13 more (and two on IR) on Saturday so it's very possible we'll be seeing a few cuts today.

TE Leroy Banks, WR Rich Gunnell, C Lemuel Jeanpierre, G/T Ike Ndukwe, CB Mike Richardson, LB John Russell, G Dan Santucci, T/G Colin Brown, NT Garrett Brown, DE Dion Gales, RT Bobby Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, LB David Herron, NT Derek Lokey, S DaJuan Morgan, QB Tyler Palko, S Ricky Price, WR VerranTucker, LB Pierre Walters and RB Javarris Williams.

The guys in italics were released on Friday last year and the rest on Saturday.

Looking at that list of players also brings up another point I wanted to make. Just because a player is cut today doesn't mean he can't return to the Chiefs either on the practice squad or sometime during the regular season. If you need a quick fix at a position during the season due to an injury, it's easier to sign someone who's familiar with your system. Check out that list and you'll see quite a few familiar names, guys who are currently on the roster.
