Chiefs Vs. Packers Preseason: The Last Time They Played

Getty Images

The last time the Kansas City Chiefs won a preseason game was one year ago this week. The Chiefs had lost their first seven preseason games under Todd Haley and hosted the Green Bay Packers in the preseason finale. They came out on top in that game, 17-13, for their first -- and only -- preseason victory under Haley.

Things wil look a little different this time around, especially at quarterback. In that game, QB Brodie Croyle was the leading passer completing 11-of-16 passes for 119 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. And, as usual, RB Jackie Battle was the preseason leading rusher that night with 67 yards on 10 carries. WR/RB Dexter McCluster was expected to be a full-time receiver last year at this time but he received three carries for 37 yards in this game. This time around, McCluster is viewed mostly as a running back.

Packers QB Matt Flynn really came onto the scene last year when he nearly lead the Packers to a victory over the New England Patriots in the regular season with QB Aaron Rodgers out but he also had a solid performance against the Chiefs in preseason completing 23-of-37 passes for 304 yards.

As for the starters, QB Matt Cassel attempted nine passes, RB Jamaal Charles rushed one time and WR Dwayne Bowe had one reception.

We'll see what the Chiefs do in this game, and how much the starters play. I know preseason doesn't matter but it would be awfully nice to notch another victory before the season starts.
