The Kansas City Chiefs seem to frequently cycle through a lot of tight ends and today they're adding another. According to PFT"s Mike Florio, the Chiefs signed free agent TE Anthony Becht to a one-year deal.
I don't know a whole lot about Becht other than he's listed at 6'6" and 270 pounds, which is fairly large, even for a tight end. Those numbers come from the 2010 preseason, the last time he played in the league.
Becht comes to the Chiefs from Arizona where he was signed in 2009 in the post-Todd Haley era. He was originally a first round pick by the New York Jets in the 2000 NFL draft .
The moves kinda comes out of nowhere as there isn't, as far as we know, any major injuries with tight ends. TE Tony Moeaki started camp on the PUP list but has been progressing. Perhaps this move is made to push one of the guys already on the roster. The Chiefs are very big into competition, and adding guys to elevate the play of everyone.
Here are all the Chiefs current tight ends: Moeaki, Leonard Pope, Jake O'Connell, Charlie Gantt and Cody Slate.
