We've had a number of questions about this so I figured I'd put it out there:
I don't know what's going on with LB Justin Houston either.
The Kansas City Chiefs rookie linebacker has yet to sign his rookie contract so he's not practicing with the rest of the rookies. With the new rookie pay system, there isn't a whole lot of negotiating to be done other than guaranteed money so I'm not sure what the holdup is. It doesn't seem anyone else around Chiefs training camp knows either.
I will say, though, that missing time hurts rookies even more this year. Presumably he hasn't even seen a playbook yet. There's a preseason game in 12 days that he could miss if he doesn't get to camp soon. He hasn't met the coaching staff yet. It's a tough situation for him to be in right now.
This is the third consecutive year GM Scott Pioli has had a rookie holdout entering camp. In 2009, DE Tyson Jackson was about a week late to camp. In 2010, S Eric Berry was a holdout for less than a day.
Now it's Houston and, no, I don't know why.
