Report: Chiefs, NT Kelly Gregg Agree To One-Year Deal

When a league source told me yesterday that an interesting signing could be coming for the Kansas City Chiefs I didn't who or what he meant. Now I think we know.

Joe Fortenbaugh of National Football Post reports the Chiefs have signed former Baltimore Ravens NT Kelly Gregg to a one-year deal. (Our friend Carrington Harrison was hyping Gregg up on 610 Sports' night show earlier this week so he's gotta be happy.)

Assuming it's accurate, this is exactly what so many people thought the Chiefs should do -- sign a veteran nose tackle to a short-term deal. The Chiefs have young nose tackle options in rookie NT Jerrell Powe and three-year veteran NT Anthony Toribio so they didn't necessarily need to hang out a long-term deal.

Gregg has been with the Ravens since the 2001 season earning a pair of contract extensions there. He's a big boy at 6'0" and 320 pounds. He's 34 years old so we're not saying he's the future but, in my mind, this is a solid move for the Chiefs.

The Ravens always have one of the best defenses so I can't blame the Chiefs for finding their next player in Baltimore. Much more coming on this soon.
