It's official. The Kansas City Chiefs can start signing free agents.
Free agency officially started at 5:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) this evening. That's when players are allowed to actually sign contracts.
That's probably why we see this (via Bob Fescoe) at training camp:
Right now Pioli is on his cell phone on the field
We've been hearing plenty of free agency rumors involving the Chiefs this week. The big names include NT Aubrayo Franklin and FB Le'Ron McClain but we haven't seen any hard news suggesting either of those will happen.
The Chiefs already signed WR Steve Breaston, so we expect the Chiefs to make that official. We also expect them to make official the following signings: C Casey Wiegmann, WR Terrance Copper, CB Travis Daniels and S Jon McGraw.
The rest of the Chiefs unrestricted free agents include LB Charlie Anderson, RB Jackie Battle, FB Tim Castille, OT Ryan O'Callaghan, LB Corey Mays, TE Leonard Pope, C Rudy Niswanger and QB Brodie Croyle. I'm sure they've signed a few of those guys as well.
It's finally here, folks. Chris and I are both on duty for the rest of the night so stick around.
