The Cost Of Chiefs Letting Shaun Smith Go

DE Shaun Smith announced on Twitter this morning that he was leaving the Kansas City Chiefs and signing with the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs were reportedly working on a deal with him this week but obviously didn't come to an agreement.

So how much would it have cost to keep Shaun Smith?

We're not exactly sure on that but we do know the deal he got from the Tennessee Titans. According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Smith received a three-year deal worth $7.75 million. He'll receive $3.25 million in the first year.

Would you do this if you're GM Scott Pioli?

The easy answer is yes because it's not our money to spend. That said, I really do think the Chiefs made a mistake not re-signing him. I'm not going to re-hash the reasons why but it's clear I'm not the only one who feels that way.
