Chiefs Can Start Releasing Players Today

The waiver wire will begin at 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead time) today meaning the Kansas City Chiefs can soon start releasing players. The Chiefs are under the salary cap so they don't necessarily have to make any cuts due to money but they'll be allowed to make cuts if they choose.

We've already seen quite a few roster cuts around the league already but haven't heard anything on Chiefs veteran players under contract. We've heard reports that the Chiefs will bring back unrestricted free agents C Casey Wiegmann, CB Travis Daniels, S Jon McGraw and WR Terrance Copper. Free agent NT Ron Edwards is reportedly headed to the Carolina Panthers.

The rest of the Chiefs unrestricted free agents look like this: DE Shaun Smith, LB Charlie Anderson, RB Jackie Battle, FB Tim Castille, OT Ryan O'Callaghan, LB Corey Mays, TE Leonard Pope, C Rudy Niswanger and QB Brodie Croyle.

Those guys have been allowed to speak with other teams already but the only news is that, per the KC Star, the Chiefs are working on a deal with DE Shaun Smith. These unrestricted free agents won't be part of the roster cuts -- they're already without a contract.

We could be hearing more on the future of a few Chiefs after 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead time) today. They still can't make any new signings official until Friday night.
