NFL Free Agency: Patriots, Matt Light Reportedly Working On A Deal

One veteran offensive tackle may soon be off the market.

According to Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe, the New England Patriots are working on a new deal with free agent OT Matt Light.

I mention this because we floated his name as a possible veteran free agent for the Kansas City Chiefs. For me, a move for Light made a lot of sense -- veteran player coming from the Patriots at a position of need (with a move to right tackle). Seemed like a move the Chiefs would make.

Light is 33 years old and was part of one of GM Scott Pioli's first draft classes in New England. (Pioli was also in on his six-year extension back in October 2004)

Other than nose tackle, one of the positions I'm waiting on/hoping the Chiefs will address is a veteran offensive tackle to compete with OT Barry Richardson, who has a restricted free agent tender. Apparently, that veteran tackle won't be Light.
