There wasn't any doubt about this but DE Wallace Gilberry plans to sign his restricted free agent tender with the Kansas City Chiefs sometime in the next few days. This according to Gilberry himself on an appearance with Bob Fescoe and Josh Klingler on 610 Sports' morning show.
"I haven't signed my offer yet," Gilberry said. "I'm hoping to do that in the next couple of days or so but I'm definitely headed to Kansas City and excited to be back with the Chiefs."
Gilberry says he's beefing up a little bit this year from 270 pounds to 285. He tells Bob and Bob Josh that he's been working this offseason to become a complete, three-down player.
If he can do that, it gives the Chiefs even more pass-rushing options. Last year, Gilberry was second on the team in sacks so he's one of the more interesting developing players for the Chiefs. These are the types of diamonds in the rough a team needs to find in order to compete year in and year out.
The Chiefs offered him a second round tender which means any team that wants him would have to give up a second round pick for him. The Chiefs shouldn't have a problem keeping him at that level.
