On my way to Arrowhead Stadium this morning, I received a call from my girlfriend's sister that she had been in an accident. All is well but I had to go out to the scene of the accident to pick her up so I missed the press conference with the Chiefs brass, which means I'm just now catching up on what went down.
One of the notable comments from Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli came when the KC Star's Adam Teicher asked if it's reasonable to get all the draft picks signed and into camp on time.
"It's reasonable to expect that and we're hoping," Pioli said, via 810 WHB's audio. "We were able to contact our draft choices and rookie free agents yesterday, and their agents and talk to them."
There's a new rookie wage scale out which, as Pioli points out, should make things easier by providing a clearer floor and ceiling for each player.
"I think the way that this system has bene put together, it makes it pretty close to cut and dry. There's minimums, maximums, not only for the rookie pool but each individual player, so hopefully it shouldn't be too challenging. It's reasonable to expect that."
The biggest hang-up will probably be guaranteed money as that's still pretty negotiable.
That said, it sounds like the Chiefs expect fans to be able to see WR Jonathan Baldwin wearing No. ?? this weekend. My money's still on No. 89 but we'll see when it becomes official.
