The Kansas City Chiefs made a number of undrafted free agent moves on Monday night reportedly agreeing to terms with Auburn CB Demond Washington and Virginia Union OT David Mims. Both players confirmed the news on their (unverified) Twitter accounts.
We already talked about Washington -- a 5'9", 180-pound cornerback that's fast and has some return ability.
Mims is an interesting pickup and, despite being an UDFA, has a shot at making the Chiefs roster. KC has just three offensive tackles under contract for 2011 so Mims, an offensive tackle, fits in nicely.
He played left tackle at Virginia Union and his 6'8", 331-pound frame probably fits best as a right tackle at the NFL level. The Chiefs actually worked him out before the draft so this is another one of those guys they previously had interest in.
I normally try to keep an even keel about these undrafted free agents because they're such longshots to make the team and that's true with Mims but he has a couple of positive things going for him that gives him a shot to make the team. He's also among Mocking The Draft's best available UDFAs entering this week. Nice pickup by the Chiefs on the undrafted market.
Also, remember, undrafted free agency is like college recruiting so these guys can go anywhere. An offensive tackle picking going to the Chiefs is a smart move because KC has room at offensive tackle.
