A Chief In Donkeyland

Alright, so a week ago I had the honor and pleasure of being a Volunteer Stage Manager at a local Bluesfest, all of which went to help out a very good and worthwhile cause:  Habitat For Humanity.  Those of you who know me (especially Professor Mills) know that my love of music, and especially blues, rivals my love of the Chiefs.  (I know, that borders on heresy, but we'll continue as if nobody said a word).

So, while I'm there I had the distinct pleasure of hearing and seeing some damned fine musicians doing what they do best:  play music!  (like ... DUH!) and thought I'd share with you a few of my experiences.  "Now, why would Ups want to do anything like that HERE on FOOTBALL blog?" you might ask, and I wouldn't blame you one little bit!  But, bear with me an don't JUMP to any conclusions just yet ... you'll see ...

So, there I am at Stage Three, acting all Managerly (yes, that's a word ... I know because I just now made it up!) and the first act is killer good, a band called Reckless Red. Lead singer CJ was very good, a lot of fun to chat with before the show, and most definitely easy on the eyes ... Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The next band was Blind Curve, excellent tunage and a very good Sax/Harmonica player, followed by these guys: The Blues All Stars ... Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I loved the next band, Eef and the Blues Express ... couldn't have had anything to do with the lead singer and guitarist Eve, could it? Nah ... Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Understand it wasn't ALL "fun and games" ... some of us had to work hard, like Mike the Sound Mixer ... Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

... and Jayme from 106 The Mile, who came all the way down from Vail just to be our Stage 3 Announcer, poor thing worked so hard she had to catch some shade ... Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I will admit, of course, that I was truly blessed by having two of the finest Stage Crew Assistants cheap beer could buy in Laura and Heather ... Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

... but the best part, in a way, was when it was all done and we had to say "goodnight" to all the fine people who came out and supported the benefit. Jayme had already left to make the long drive back to Vail, and so it was left to me to jump onstage and thank all the wonderful people for coming out and being there ... it was a task that I had to do, and gladly so, because earlier I'd had a little "face painting" done by the kind Face Painting Fairies at the booth across the way, and so with Bubble Blowing Death Ray Sounding Cool Light Flashing Toy Space Raygun in hand I leapt onto the stage, at which point the entire crowd GASPED in disbelief, for there standing amongst the Donkey Lovers they were witness to the following sight ...
