I was pretty busy most of the weekend which means I didn't have much time to spend on the site. It seems that whenever I'm away for a couple of days there's an interesting story that comes out or breaking news hits.
Over the weekend, the interesting story was this one from Pro Football Weekly discussing the future of G Brian Waters. I didn't find the story as interesting as I did the reaction to the story. I saw headlines in several places wondering if the Kansas City Chiefs were moving on from Waters, which suggested to me that the PFW story was reporting that the Chiefs and Waters were going to party ways.
Instead, the story said a couple of things which we already knew.
For the past decade, OLG Brian Waters has been a premier player for the Chiefs, earning five Pro Bowl appearances while being a leader both on and off the field. However, he might be nearing the end of his Kansas City career.
There's no one on the planet that doesn't think Waters is nearing the end of his career. He's 34 years old and the Chiefs have his presumed replacement on the team. This is not a surprising statement.
According to our team sources, Chiefs management is very high on reserve OG Jon Asamoah, a third-round pick a year ago.
And this isn't a surprise either. We know this. Asamoah replaced Waters for a game last season and the reviews were positive. We've heard nothing from the Chiefs to suggest they don't like Asamoah.
So, to me, this report doen't really tell us anything we didn't know. We're still not sure if Waters will be back or not.
