Are 2012 mock drafts useless? Almost. Are they ever accurate? Rarely.
So why do we even look at them? Because it's a long offseason and we need something to talk about now that the 2011 NFL draft is over.
So ESPN's Todd McShay came out with his 2012 mock draft and there are a few interesting tidbits in there.
-Stanford QB Andrew Luck is going No. 1 overall. This is the only part of the mock draft that I think he got right. It's been a while since we've had such a no-brainer No. 1 pick like Luck.
-North Carolina has two defensive ends in the top six. The last time two UNC defensive linemen went in the top six was 2002 with the second pick DE Julius Peppers and the sixth pick...DT Ryan Sims.
-The Kansas City Chiefs are selecting 17th and their pick is...LB Manti Te'o out of Notre Dame. I have a buddy who's a freakishly huge ND fan so I remember every step of Te'o's recruiting process to the Irish. He'd have to come out early for this to happen but here's what McShay says:
Te'o has developed into a solid player and should emerge as one of the elite linebackers in the nation in 2011. He continues to improve his recognition skills and has the quickness and power you look for in a starting inside linebacker in the NFL.
