The 2011 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft continues with IamtheGreatest choosing for the Dallas Cowboys at No. 40...
The Dallas Cowboys had an abysmal season last year, but overall they have some talent. However, with only two draft picks getting considerable playing time in Dez Bryant and Sean Lee, this is the year to fill holes in the draft.
Areas of need:
Defensive End: This position was taken care of with the pick of Marcell Dareus.
Offensive Line: Marc Columbo is becoming a liability and could be upgraded. Doug Free has shown that he can play both sides so bringing somebody in the second round could be a distinct possibility.
Cornerback: Terrance Newman is getting old, Mike Jenkins showed his quitting side before Wade Phillips was fired, and Orlando Scandrick is more of a nickel back.
Safety: Allan Ball can not cover deep, finding a safety who can play the run and pass is a must. All of these needs can be met in the first round but it depends on who is available and what the Cowboys feel is the biggest need.
With all this being said, with the 40th pick in the draft, The Dallas Cowboys select.....
Aaron Williams CB Texas
Not going to far from what has been home, Williams has all the tools necessary to be a good to great corner. He covers well, and tackles very well, but also has the great skill of blitzing. The reason why the pick is not Brandon Harris or Rahim Moore, (corner and safety respectively), is that Williams can play both positions. This year's safety class is not that good and Moore being at the top of it really doesn't prove anything. Williams is chosen over Harris because Aaron Williams had a more consistent college career.
The reason this pick makes sense is because it gives the Cowboys flexibility. If the Cowboys think that they can go out and sign a top free agent safety or cornerback then Aaron Williams can fill the other role. This pick gives the Cowboys some versatility and some much needed depth. With a top pick in the 3rd round the Cowboys can look to add an Offensive Lineman, but getting Aaron Williams here, helps sure up a defense that really needs it.
