The 2011 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft continues with ejr58 choosing for the Tennessee Titans at No. 39...
Well...that kind of sucks. There is no way that Vince Young can be allowed to run the huddle in Tennessee again and I was set and ready to snag Jake Locker but the Cardinals just had to swoop in and get him first.
So now with Locker, Dalton, and Ponder all off the board, we are only left with two viable options at QB for this pick: Ryan Mallett and Colin Kaepernick.
Mallet is a very interesting prospect. The guy can flat out throw. There is a distinct possibility he will turn into one hell of a franchise QB for whichever team takes the inherent risk. But the keyword is "risk". Whatever you choose to hitch your wagon to - drug rumors, underage drinking violations, or the maturity level of Charlie Sheen - Mallett just screams bad news. He is the perfect example of a player that needs to spend two or three years riding the pine behind a quarterback who can be a mentor.
In my eyes, Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick is a much safer pick. He will be able to step in and take over the huddle and earn the respect of his teammates. He might look like hell for a little bit...but we're talking a second round pick out of Nevada, he's not going to win a Super Bowl next season. While he will surely make more stupid plays than Gabbert, Newton, and Locker, he will probably make just as many spectacular how-the-hell-did-he-do-that?! plays. The kid has a rocket for an arm. Did you know he's a baseball player? Yep. He was drafted as a pitcher out of high school with a 90+ mph fastball. That arm strength holds true for throwing a football too. Hell, he can run too. In fact, Kaepernick is the only player in NCAA history to run for over 4,000 yards and pass for over 10,000. I watched Kaepernick play against Mizzou twice and he can flat out take over a game at any point.
Now, if you had a legit home run threat at QB staring you in the face in the second round...would you pass him up?
I wouldn't. Pack your bags Young. Call Michael Vick up, I'm sure he can set you up with a construction job somewhere. He has contacts. Gooch.
