Ricky Stanzi Drafted By The Kansas City Chiefs In The Fifth Round Of The 2011 NFL Draft

Head to the home page for the latest draft coverage.

Wow. The Kansas City Chiefs go quarterback with their sixth pick of the 2011 NFL drafty by choosing Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi. The 6'4", 223 pound Stanzi is the eight best QB according to the NFL Draft Scout. He was a team captain for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2010.

This is a pick that is going to make many Arrowhead Pride readers happy. Lots of people have been clamoring for Stanzi to become a Chief. Remember - Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and Chiefs GM Scott Pioli are close. That relationship undoubtedly played a part in this decision.

Just to be clear, Matt Cassel is still the unquestioned starter in Kansas City. I feel like Scott Pioli and the Chiefs saw Stanzi available at No. 135 and felt they couldn't pass up a player of his value.

Check out some Ricky Stanzi highlights here.

The Kansas City Chiefs' draft picks so far in the 2011 NFL draft are WR Jonathan Baldwin, C Rodney Hudson, LB Justin Houston, DE Allen Bailey, CB Jalil Brown and now QB Ricky Stanzi . The Chiefs next picks are:

  • Round 5, Pick 9 (140) (From Detroit)
  • Round 6, Pick 34 (199) (Compensatory Selection)

KC is on the clock very soon, picking at No. 140. Quick reactions to this pick?
