Team Captains Define The Kansas City Chiefs' First Two Days Of The 2011 NFL Draft

New, comments

We are done with the three rounds of the 2011 NFL drat and I don't know about you but I am exhausted. An exciting first round really set the pace for a very interesting first two days of the biggest event of the off season.

Similar to the Kansas City Chiefs' 2010 NFL draft, there was one particular characteristic that ran through three of the Chiefs' first four picks - leadership. Specifically, three out of the Chiefs' first four picks were team captains of their respective football teams in 2010. That's drafting, Pioli-style.

As you can probably imagine, we're going to be loading up on information and conversation about the Chiefs' draft picks over the next few days. Make sure you check out the Dawg Sports write up on the Chiefs' third draft pick - What are the Chiefs getting in Justin Houston? I thought it was a pretty great post.

For now, here's a quick recap of what the Chiefs did in the first two days:

  • 1. The Chiefs traded their No. 21 pick to the Cleveland Browns, who in turn gave KC the No. 27 pick and the No. 70 pick. The Chiefs used the No. 26 pick on Pittsburgh WR Jonathan Baldwin, jumping up a spot in the draft order after the Ravens passed on the No. 26 pick;
  • 2. The Chiefs drafted Florida State C Rodney Hudson with the No. 55 pick in the second round;
  • 3. The Chiefs' third draft pick was another great value - Georgia LB Justin Houston with the No. 70 pick in the third round;
  • 4. Finally, Kansas City rounded out the first two days by selecting Miami DE Allen Bailey with the No. 86 pick in the third round;
Tomorrow morning, make sure you get up bright and early because we'll be posting updates and approval polls early in the AM. The draft starts at 12 p.m. (ET) tomorrow but come early.

Here's the Chiefs' draft schedule for rounds 4-7 tomorrow:

  • Round 4, Pick 21 (118)
  • Round 5, Pick 4 (135) (From Denver through Tampa Bay)
  • Round 5, Pick 9 (140) (From Detroit)
  • Round 6, Pick 34 (199) (Compensatory Selection)
  • Round 7, Pick 20 (223)
