Second Round Mock Draft Has Kansas City Chiefs Going Defense

New, comments

Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings and SBNation.com has been doing a great job mocking the NFL draft this year and he's just put out his latest Round Two mock draft, updated based on last night's NFL draft results. So, with the Kansas City Chiefs going offense in the first round, who does Galliford have the Chiefs taking with the No. 55 pick?

Kansas City Chiefs: Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia. Houston is overrated, but he's simply too athletically gifted to slide much further than this. A nice running mate for Tamba Hali.

The former defensive end turned linebacker reportedly visited with the Kansas City Chiefs this off season. He's a team captain as well. I could easily see this pick happening, if Houston is still available at No. 55. His pass rushing experience is key and like Galliford said, Tamba Hali would greatly benefit from the help, much like Dwayne Bowe will benefit from Jon Baldwin.

Here's a little more on him from NFL Draft Scout:

Thanks to Georgia's scheme switch in 2010, he has a year of experience under his belt as a stand-up pass rusher. That provides real game film for scouts to review, rather than trying to project how an undersized defensive end will make the transition. Houston racked up 18?? tackles for loss and finished second in the SEC behind Fairley with 10 sacks. But he has very limited experience dropping into coverage.

I think you'd be hard pressed to completely disagree with the results if Justin Houston was the pick for the Chiefs at No. 55. He was often mocked as a first rounder, although some would disagree.
