Kansas City Chiefs NFL Draft Busts: No. 6 Harvey Williams

New, comments

Arrowhead Pride has teamed up with Bud Light (Give 'em a like on Facebook here) to bring you the top ten biggest draft busts in Kansas City Chiefs history. We continue with No. 6...

In 1990, the Kansas City Chiefs' franchise began turning it around from the dark days of the 1980s. The '90 team went 11-5, which was the Chiefs' best winning percentage in a season since 1970. Things were turning around for the better and the Kansas City Chiefs felt that LSU RB Harvey Williams would help push them over the top in the 1991 season and beyond.

Unfortunately, things didn't turn out very well in Kansas City for the No. 21 overall pick.

Harvey Williams would only play three seasons in Kansas City before heading to the Oakland Raiders to end his career.

The main reason that Harvey Williams is on this list of Kansas City Chiefs' draft busts is because of unfulfilled expectations. Williams was drafted No. 21 overall but never was able to earn a lion's share of the carries on those Chiefs teams.

In 1991, Williams got the third most carries on the team behind Christian Okoye and Barry Word. In 1992, the same thing happened. Okoye and Word got most of the carries, leaving Williams with only 78 on the season.

In 1993, Marcus Allen arrived on the Chiefs and became their primary rusher. Williams received the fourth most carries that season. His relevance had been diminished to the point where the Chiefs felt they didn't even need him on the team anymore.

The 21st pick. Three NFL seasons with the Chiefs. And an average of less than 300 yards of production on the ground each season. That's why Harvey Williams is on this list.

More Chiefs' draft busts:

No. 10 - Junior Siavii

No. 9 - Sylvester Morris

No. 8 - Victor Riley

No. 7 - Paul Palmer
