The 2011 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft continues with KillaCity107 choosing for the Chicago Bears at No. 62...
The acquisition of Derek Sherrod in the first round allowed the Bears to bolster their biggest perceived weakness. With Cutler getting some help in protection right away the team has been freed up to persue several options in the second. I would not be surprised to see a BPA pick here.
Recap of the final season rankings:
- Total Offense (30th)
- Passing Yards (28th)
- Rushing Yards (22nd)
- Total Points (21st)
- Total Defense (9th)
- Passing Yards Allowed (20th)
- Rushing Yards Allowed (2nd)
- Points Against (4th)
The defense needs some youth at LB to eventually replace the aging Urlacher and Briggs. Planning for the future is essential, so it would benefit the Bears to draft a playmaker at LB to groom under either of these great veterans. DB could also use an upgrade, especially at the #2 CB position such as Davon House. This would go a long way toward helping the glaring statistical problem with this defense (20th in passing yards allowed). The final defensive spot to address is DT. With the decline in play and eventual departure of Tommy Harris the DL needs a new face in the middle. The question becomes: Do you promote from within and groom a late round pick? Or use a high draft pick on a player that can contribute early? Only the Bears front office knows for sure how they feel about the players currently on the roster and their ability to step in and produce.
Additional options exist on the offensive side of the ball. The OL could use some additional help on the inside at guard and center with Olin Kreutz nearing the end of his career. WR is also a position of need with no clear #2 behind Johnny Knox. The player I had targeted in the first is still here staring at me, so...
With the 62nd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:
Jonathan Baldwin, Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh
I was tempted to reach for Baldwin in the first, so having him sitting here in the second is fantastic. The Bears have a jumble of smallish receivers with plenty of speed and what they really need is a big bodied, physical receiver. They will get just that in Baldwin. At 6-4 228 with a 42 inch vertical, Baldwin is an aggresive physical presence at WR. He will provide a great redzone target and could become Cutler's go-to receiver.
