2011 NFL Mock Draft: The Minnesota Vikings Select...

New, comments

The 2011 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft continues with ravenhawk choosing for the Minnesota Vikings at No. 43...

The Minnesota Viking's coveting of Jake Locker ended with him being snagged earlier in the 2nd round. No other QB is really worthy of the Vikings' 2nd round pick... So at this point the Vikings must protect the QB, and hope that there is a chance to trade for a QB.

The Minnesota Vikings select...

Rodney Hudson G/C from Florida State

  • Weight: 299 lbs.
  • Arm Length: 32 1/2 in.
  • Hand Size: 9 3/8 in.
  • College: Florida St.
  • Conference: ACC
  • Position: OL

Hudson possesses outstanding mobility for an offensive lineman. Displays exceptional awareness. Gets great movement while run blocking. Can hold up against the bull rush and move his feet against penetrators. Has a great work ethic. Tough player conditioned to go hard all day long. Was a tone-setter for the Seminoles during his career.

While he does lack size and can get overpowered by a strong inside bull rush in pass protection; after a year in a NFL weight room this shouldn't be a problem. Occasionally he does overextend at the waist at times and lunge to catch a defender, leaving him unbalanced. Has trouble driving lineman back on straight ahead blocks in run support. Strength/size must improve to maintain level of play even in a similar blocking scheme. Handles speed much better than pure size and strength. Moving to the inside from guard to center should help complete the Vikings offensive line as his weaknesses would be masked at this position.

He's an extremely impressive prospect athletically and always has his head in the game. All Hudson lacks is pure size and strength to be as complete a lineman as you could ask for at the NFL level. His athleticism and football IQ jump out at you and he should continue to be a mainstay in a similar zone blocking scheme at the next level. If Hudson is able to add 10-15 pounds to his frame, he'll become a perennial Pro Bowler in the NFL, and may become one anyway with continued effort on technique consistency.
