2011 NFL Mock Draft: The New York Giants Select...

The 2011 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft continues with flowers24 choosing for the New York Giants at No. 19...

The Giants have now missed the playoffs in both of the last two seasons, faltering down the stretch. To me, that screams injuries to older players, and/or age just wearing guys down in the late stages.

Being from and living in New York, I know plenty of Giants fan and have seen more of their games or not. They have some holes for sure on the defensive side. They need a LB, and maybe a big time corner. However, the top corners (i.e. Prince Amukamara and Patrick Peterson) are long gone and LB is pretty deep.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Giants are set with everything except their O-Line. What was once a strength is now an aging weakness. Manning has been getting hit more often, leading to turnovers. The tandem of Bradshaw and Jacobs is more than adequate, and the receivers are some of the best in the game.
With all that being said, the Giants make the solid if not sexy pick.

Mike Pouncey - C/G, Florida

Pouncey gives them an immediate starter on the line, and some versatility. Coughlin loves pounding the ball, and Pouncey is a flat out mauler. His brother of course has been terrific in Pittsburgh, and helped them reach a Super Bowl.

Sometimes fans get ticked off at drafting on the line because they don't get to see a flashy new toy on the outside. Such is the case for fringe fans with this pick, but as we all know, the lines are what win and lose the game. The Giants have always been a power team, and will continue to operate that way. Shoring up the interior of the line will improve not only the ground attack, but also Manning's penchant for turnovers at times. He gets a lot of balls tipped at the line. With Pouncey, the d-line won't be able to have as much penetration, which should help his INT rate.

In the cold weather and swirling winds of the Meadowlands, running the ball is an absolute must. If the Giants want to get back to the playoffs, they need to take care of business up front. Pouncey can neutralize the likes of Ratliff and Haynesworth (if he's still around). It's a logical pick for a well run organization, combining BPA and need.
