In the least surprising news of the week, the Kansas City Chiefs will keep QB Matt Cassel.

There was never even a single doubt that this would happen but ESPN.com's Bill Williamson noted over the weekend that Cassel reportedly has a $7+ million bonus due on the 10th day of the league year -- whenever that starts -- and the Chiefs will likely pick it up.

So other media outlets are writing stories reporting that Cassel is going to stay in Kansas City. Honestly, it hadn't even occurred to me that the Chiefs wouldn't pick up the bonus.

Of course they will.

The bonus is due between year two and three so the Chiefs, when structuring the contract, had an out if they wanted it. After the 2009 season, there might have been some doubt as to whether the Chiefs would pick up his bonus (even then I never doubted they would pick it up). After the 2010 season, of course they're going to pick up the bonus.
