Chiefs Checking Out Slippery Rock C Brandon Fusco

New, comments

Slippery Rock C Brandon Fusco was one of three D-II players at the 2011 Senior Bowl and it appears he has a solid shot of getting draft. NFL Draft Scout has the 6'4", 306-pound center down as a fifth round pick and the Kansas City Chiefs have had the opportunity to get a closer look.

According to, the Chiefs and New England Patriots have had private workouts with Fusco. He's also scheduled to work out with the New York Giants and New York Jets. He has quite the resume for A D-II guy. Check out this snippet of his accomplishments:

Won Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award and Division II Rimington Award in 2010. Elected team captain by teammates in 2009 and 2010. Earned Rock team offensive MVP award in 2009. Did not back down against much higher level of competition at Senior Bowl.

Not a surprise that he was a team captain.

Last month ESPN's Bill Williamson reported current Chiefs C Casey Wiegmann is leaning toward coming back another year -- he doesn't have a contract in 2011 -- though he hasn't made that decision yet. I imagine they'd take him back if he decided to return.
