The 2011 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft continues with Another Succesful Tedford QB choosing for the San Francisco 49ers at No. 7...
The hyphy City by the Bay has a new leader rockin' his thizz face while ghost-ridin' the Niner's whip.
Now, we all know Jim Harbaugh rode Andrew Luck to one of the most successful seasons in Stanfurd's history. Harbaugh was smart, sold himself high, and rallied into a money position with a storied NFL program in a place where he doesn't even need to move. Luck's idiot self passed on the sure-fire #1 pick, returned to get a Bachelor's degree from an architecture program that's not even accredited, and will try to lead a Furd team that graduated most of their good linemen. Looking forward to the Big Game where Cal will undoubtedly shred his knee ending his football career forever (mark my words).
The 49ers literally have pissed their pants in excitement with the way this draft has gone down. Although San Francisco is desperately in need of a QB upgrade, Sir Harbaugh isn't dumb enough to reach on any of the QB scrubs coming out this year. Even if Blame Gabbert and Scam Newton are still on the board, there is no way in hell SF drafts a QB round 1. They will end up riding Alex Smith to a 2 or 3 win season to ensure a Harbaugh/Luck man-love reunion.
Julio Jones is a viable option to add to the Crabtree/Vernon Davis combo, but a possible #2WR can be found later and SF will want to give Josh Morgan a chance to be that guy.
Sir Harbaugh loved his beef at the Farm, and the best interior lineman are available but we all know #7 is ridiculous for a Guard or Center (unless we're talking about Alex Mack Truck here). Plus, SF took two lineman in the first round last year and seem to have young, above average talents at 3 spots on the line (Staley, Iupati and Davis). So OL is out the window.
The Niners could also look at a pass rusher to compliment the overall badassness of Patrick Willis. But given that Bowers and Miller are off the board already, don't expect them to reach on Quinn out of Carolina or any of the other pass rushers.
Finally, a stout 3-4 DE to help solidify their front 3 could be a wise pick. Dareus out of Bama could fill this role nicely, but there is no doubt that Cameron Jordan out of Bezerkeley is the best 3-4 DE in the draft. It just simply isn't a large enough need to drop #7 money on.
The biggest hole to fill for SF is obvious and has been pointed out by 99% of all football blogs/ news outlets. Nate Clements is done and their secondary is still reeling from that terrible investment. They drafted Taylor Mays last year, but everyone knows that his ex-roommate from U$C, Brian Cushing, gave him a call quickly after getting busted and advised Mays to get off the juice. Much to the chagrin of the Niners, Mays nose-dived big time once off the ‘roids. He'll never recover unless he starts taking some risks again, and puts that needle back in the butt. So, with a definite need for a CB and a soft need for a Safety, SF runs to the podium to grab a player that many tabbed to be the best overall prospect in the draft...
With the #7 pick in the 2011 ArrowheadPride mock draft, the San Francisco 49ers select...
Patrick Peterson, CB/Returner Maestro, LSU
This man freak is 6'1'', 222 lbs, and is one of the largest DB's in college football. He's blessed with the physique of an outside linebacker, yet posted an impressive 4.37 40-yard dash and boasts a 39-inch vertical.
Peterson was awarded the Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation's top defensive back, and the Badnarik Award, which goes to the nation's top defender.
He was named to the All-American team by the Football Writers Association of America, Walter Camp and CBSsports.com (I'm sure there are other All-American lists, and I'm sure he made those too...the man is good at football).
Patrick is also up for challenges. In his ‘09 match-ups, Peterson held standout receivers AJ Green- UGA & Julio Jones- UA to 4 & 3 receptions respectively.
And we haven't even gotten to his return abilities yet. In his debut as a returner in the opener against UNC, Peterson had a school-record 257 yards returning punts and kickoffs, 244 yards coming the first half including an 87-yard touchdown. After that performance, punters generally avoided him and he finished the season with 418 punt return yards (2 TDs) and 932 kick return yards. Add to that 4 interceptions (134 return yards on those picks) and a huge blocked kick and you got yourself a playmaker.
