Chiefs GM Scott Pioli Second In Sporting News' Executive Of The Year Voting

New, comments

GM Scott Pioli hauled in the Pro Football Weekly executive of the year award last month for his work in matching last year the Kansas City Chiefs win total the three previous years combined. The Chiefs 10 wins were a result of Pioli's moves in free agency in addition to the 2010 draft class.

He was very close to snagging another honor coming in second in the Sporting News' Executive of the Year honor. Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff took home the award and said others, including Pioli, were deserving as well.

"I am very humbled to be named the executive of the year by my peers," he says. "It means a lot to receive this award, but there were a number of general managers that were deserving of the honor. Ozzie Newsome and Scott Pioli, in particular, did tremendous jobs this season."

47 GMs, assistant GMs, owners, personnel men and head coaches voted on the award. Dimitroff received 13 votes, Pioli had eight votes and Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominic finished with seven votes.

Check out the Sporting News story about the award where you'll find an interesting anecdote about Dimitroff once working on the Cleveland Browns grounds crew and doing some part-time scouting for the Chiefs.
