SB Nation's latest 2011 NFL mock draft is out and there are a few interesting picks in the one-round mock. The mock draft was done by Brian Galliford of SBNation.com and Buffalo Rumblings. Here's what he has for the Kansas City Chiefs pick at No. 21 (Mississippi State OT Derek Sherrod), and then I've added a few additional random thoughts:
The Chiefs need a complement to Tamba Hali at outside linebacker, but there isn't a good value pick here. They could also take a nose guard like Phil Taylor, but that seems too much a reach, as well. Sherrod would replace Ryan O'Callaghan at right tackle.
*Oregon State DT Stephen Paea is going right after the Chiefs pick to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 22. I've heard his name floating around as a possibility for the Chiefs pick. Throw nose tackle in there as a position the Chiefs could be addressing.
*Colorado CB Jimmy Smith is going No. 23. I've thought about this before -- could the Chiefs go corner? I know it's not an immediate need but I wonder if the Chiefs think about drafting another corner and not signing Brandon Flowers or Brandon Carr to a long-term deal. Cornerbacks can be expensive so I can envision a scenario in which one of those guys is allowed to walk or traded.
*I wonder where OL Mike Pouncey will go. His brother Maurkice did so well with the Pittsburgh Steelers this year that I could see his stock rise. Right now SB Nation has him going to...the Steelers.
