Franchise Tag Roundup: Peyton Manning, Vincent Jackson And Haloti Ngata

New, comments

We woke up this morning and there was just one player -- New England Patriots OL Logan Mankins -- who had received the franchise tag. There have been five more players who received the franchise tag today (and probably more to come after this is posted).

It's almost as if everyone was waiting for someone else to make a move, and the Patriots finally did, so others followed suit.

Here's a roundup of the franchise tag activity today:

First, it was the Philadelphia Eagles and QB Michael Vick. The QB franchise tag number is expected to be around $16 million.

Second, we heard LB David Harris had been tagged by the New York Jets.

And then DT Haloti Ngata received the same from the Ravens. Because of Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth's massive 2010 salary, the DT franchise tag number is expected to rise over $5 million to approximately $12.5 million.

The San Diego Chargers announced they used it on WR Vincent Jackson meaning they control his rights for another year without a long-term deal in place.

The latest is that the Indianapolis Colts have used the franchise tag on QB Peyton Manning. Because Manning's 2010 salary was more than the expected 2011 franchise tag number, he will receive 120 percent of his 2010 salary. That brings his total franchise tag number in 2011 to approximately $23 million.

We're still waiting to see if the Kansas City Chiefs will use it on LB Tamba Hali. We've got about a week and a half until the deadline comes.
