Second Franchise Tag Goes To Eagles QB Michael Vick

New, comments

We're in the middle of the franchise tag period and news is coming out of the second franchis tag that's been used this year. The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they've placed the franchise tag on QB Michael Vick giving him a one-year contract expected to be worth around $17 million.

New England Patriots OL Logan Mankins was the first to receive the franchise tag. The Pats gave it to him on Monday guaranteeing him slightly over $10 million for the 2011 season.

That's two franchise tags down and more than likely a few more to go.

Big names we're waiting on include DT Haloti Ngata and the Baltimore Ravens, QB Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, and LB David Harris and the New York Jets.

And then of course LB Tamba Hali. We have heard zilch from either side on possible negotiations on a long-term deal so, as far as I know, it's just as likely the Chiefs place the franchise tag on him as it is they work out a long-term contract.

Who's getting the next franchise tag?

(Update: It's LB David Harris. The Jets placed the franchise tag on him today.)
