This week Kansas City Chiefs fans are turning into Buffalo Bills fans because we need Chan Gailey and Co. to beat the Denver Broncos on Saturday to keep the Chiefs playoff hopes alive.
The Chiefs need several things to happen down the stretch to have a shot at the playoffs -- beat the Oakland Raiders and then the Broncos in the next two weeks, the Broncos to lose to the Bills and the San Diego Chargers to lose one of their final two games (at Detroit Lions and at Raiders).
So this weekend we're Bills fans. If the Broncos beat the Bills, then the dream is over, which means we're pinning our hopes on Gailey, Ryan Fitzgerald and the rest of the Bills to beat Tim Tebow and Co.
Of course, this is all assuming the Chiefs beat the Raiders at Arrowhead (which hasn't happened since 2006).
I reached out to Brian Galliford from Buffalo Rumblings and told him that we were Bills fans for the week and he responded, "Oh, you poor, poor people. You're screwed."
"The first rule of being a Bills fan, whether you're a lifer or here for one week, is that you should expect to be miserable nearly 100 percent of the time," Galliford wrote.
"The team hasn't played playoff football since the turn of the millennium. They are the laughingstock of the league. Nothing your team tries will work - on the field or off - and you'll have to watch all of your favorite star players land on injured reserve year after year.
"Brief runs of success will feel like something special, and when the team crashes back to earth, you'll crash with them - except harder.
"Buckle up, new Bills fan: this ride is a painful one."
Well then...
