The Kyle Orton sweepstakes will end around 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) this afternoon.
(Yes, I just wrote "Kyle Orton sweepstakes". That's what this has come to.)
The Denver Broncos waived the 29-year old quarterback on Tuesday and, since we're post-NFL trade deadline, he hits the waiver wire where every team will have an opportunity to claim him and his contract. Teams have until 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) today to make a claim on him.
There are a few folks who think the Chiefs will give strong consideration to claiming Orton.
- FOX's Jay Glazer says he hears the Chiefs or the Chicago Bears could make a claim.
- NFL Network's Sam Wyche cites a league source reporting the Chiefs are considering a claim for Orton.
- ESPN's Chris Mortensen says the Chiefs "make sense" as a landing spot for Orton with system similarities to what Josh McDaniels ran in Denver with Orton.
The waiver wire priority is based on records -- worst to best is the selection order -- so the Chiefs have a higher waiver priority than a team like the Bears. We shall find out what they decide later today.
